About our President:
My story is not unfamiliar In Cambodia. I come from Kandal province which is south of Phnom Penh, 1:30 hours ride by taxi to my hometown. I do not any brothers and sisters. I am orphan. In my case my father was a soldier who fought the Khmer Rouge. He was shot, but not killed in the war. Several years later, he died from complications of the wound while my mother was pregnant with me. When I was two months old, my mother died of a food allergy. I never knew my parents. I lived with my grandmother, but she also died whilst I was very young.
I lived with many different people in many different villages. I do not know which one to call my home. I lived in a pagoda (temple) with the monks for 15 years. I was a monk for two years. I strived to be educated and improve my situation, I still study. Because I understand the need for a good education I buy school supplies for some of the children in the village. I find out who is getting the highest grades and give them pencils and paper as a reward. The people in the village ask me why I am spending my money on these things. They want me to spend money to build a temple in the village. I tell the villagers that education is important. Many children in my village do not go to school because they need to find food. Many of the children do not have enough to eat, so they go to the fields to try to catch mice to eat for breakfast instead of going to school. My aim is to have enough profit to help provide breakfast at school, which would mean they would go to school.
I never finished high school. I only went to the tenth grade. Recently, I took my test and finished high school and have now started University. I study English now so I can help more people in the villages and provide an example to the kids of the villages.
I have experience as a driver/tour organiser and guide for five years until now. I used to be an interpreter for mission medical team. Currently, I am studying English Literature at Beltei International University and I now have my own business Budget Cambodia Tours.
